“Is This Keyword Any Good?”

It’s a question I get asked - and I ask myself - many times. Selecting the “right” keyword is important if you are:

  • Using PPC advertising
  • Selecting topics around which to build a content-rich site
  • Writing articles with the aim of getting people to your websites

.. and so on

One simple method is to look at the number of web pages returned by a search engine for that keyword (the “supply”) and compare this figure with the number of people searching for this keyword (the “demand”). You can find out “demand” using the Google Keyword Tool:

The ideal keyword is one with a low supply (so there’s not too much competition from other web pages) and a high demand.

A couple of days ago I came across another superb method of immediately finding out if a keyword is any good. I learnt this method in a private paid-for sub-forum in the Warrior Forum - the “War Room”. So I really can’t disclose in detail how this method works.

What I can tell you is that it uses a couple of f’ree sites (which I’ll tell you about in a minute) which show you, for any given keyword, how many AdWords a.dvertisers are targeting that keyword. But the crucial point is.. how long have they been using that keyword for their PPC campaigns? If they are consistently targeting the same keyword for a number of months, then it clearly is of value to them.

OK, here are the two sites you should use:

Hint: the “Time Machine” tab in Keyword Spy is important!

If you want to join me in the Warrior’s “War Room”, here’s where to sign up:

It’s a one-time payment, it doesn’t cost much and, believe me, there’s huge value inside the “War Room”. The sales page (above) does not lie! Oh, and the above link is not an affiliate link (unfortunately!)

Google AdWords is an effective ad program for getting traffic. But the challenge is that you got to find the keywords that doesn’t cost much but still can give you a reasonable amount of traffic. I try to do that for some times but I failed. I learned doing keyword research but still didn’t improve much.

May be I’m a bad PPC learner, but I have to say it is hard to use Google AdWords to make money these days.

KeywordSpy is the best for keyword research. Results are accurate and it’s easy to use. Since you also mentioned the Time Machine Tab, this is one of their best features because it allows you to look back and see when your competitors profited the most on certain keywords in it’s advertising history. If you want to improve your Search Engine Marketing, this is the tool to use.
