When I taught sales techniques to people running small businesses I used teach them that selling by motivating people is much more effective than trying to manipulate them. The idea is that you get people to do what they want to do rather than what you want them to do.

Exactly the same applies in internet marketing. Let me give you an example..

If I could find you a method which motivated people to send other visitors to your websites, would you be interested?

And if this method, once the process started, ran on autopilot and then just grew and grew, would I have your attention?

I think I would! So read this carefully so you can appreciate the power of this method..

I’ve just come across a great script by Gary McCaffrey, a programmer whose work I like, which uses the “motivation” technique to get all the visitors to your website to send other people to the site. It’s called the “Instant Affiliate Generator” (”IAG”).

It’s a very neat twist on the “tell-a-friend” (”TAF”) systems, only more powerful, psychologically. Most TAF systems get the visitor to put a bunch of their friends email addresses into a form, and the system then sends these people a pre-written message.

But IAG is more subtle - and more flexible. Each visitor is given a unique link to the page, and they can use this link anywhere they like - in emails, in forums, on blogs and websites. But people can use their own words to persuade their friends and contacts to visit your page. That’s much better than a bland, automated email from a “TAF” system.

When they’ve sent a certain number of people to the page (you decide how many), they are automatically given a link to a page where they can download a bonus gift as a “thank you”.

But IAG’s subtlety doesn’t end there. First, people who have started to send out their links to your page will want to return and see if they’ve been awarded their bonus yet (a progress counter is shown on the page). So, if it’s a sales page, and they haven’t yet bought what you are selling, they will be reading your sales page on more than one occasion.

Then there’s the viral effect. People who arrive on your page through someone else’s link will see the same bonus off’er and they will start referring people to your page. And so it goes on! You can read more about the process here:

Naturally I wouldn’t be introducing you to IAG if I hadn’t already installed the system and tested it. And here’s another thing I liked - it was a really smooth and quick installation.

You need to be able to set up a MySQL database (easy if you have cPanel in your web hosting package), you need to set up a page with your bonus gift and you need to be able to use FTP software. So I guess that puts it slightly above “complete newbie” level!

Once installed, you log into your secure IAG control panel where you can set up the system on any number of web pages - and on any server. Once you’ve built your bonus page, it’s a 2-minute job to install the system on a web page. You can see a short video of the process here:

I liked the whole system so much that I forked out quite a lot to get the Resale Rights to IAG. So the sales page is my own, even though I’ve used a lot of Gary’s text and graphics. I’ve also set the price as low as I’m allowed to under my Reseller’s Licence. I’ve got plans to add it to a higher-priced package I’m building (I’m allowed to do that) and I will then stop selling IAG as a stand-alone product.
