For years various “gurus” have been telling me that I should be setting up a membership site. There are two main benefits from owning a membership site:

• You can gain subscribers from the free aspects of a membership site.
• You can have recurring revenue from the paid aspects of a membership site.

So, with those benefits in mind I have, over those years, accumulated and tested many membership site scripts.

Some have been complex and expensive. I own both the Butterfly and MemberSpeed scripts - and I’ve not used either of them. They seemed too daunting when I came to install them.

Many others have been cheap.. and pretty dreadful. I’ve spent countless hours mucking about with them.

Yes, I’ve spent a lot of “brass” (as we say in Yorkshire!) and chucked a lot of valuable hours away trying out various membership scripts. And I’ve spent more hours in recent weeks testing a new membership script. It came as part of my membership of the expensive “Dynamic4Marketing” package #2.

This script, “Instant Member”, has awakened my interest in setting up a membership site for two reasons. Here’s what they are:

• It’s dead easy to install - for me! I’ve done two test installations and they went without a hitch. OK, you’ve got to know how to (a) upload files to a web server (b) change “permissions” on files and folders (pretty easy with most FTP software, including the f’ree “FileZilla”) and (c) set up a MySQL database - again easy with most web server control panels such as cPanel.
• My eyes have been opened about how little you need in terms of content to set up a membership site. I’ve seen one Instant Member site set up based around just one PDF file! And it’s still got all the main features of a membership site, such as affiliate links, paid-for and f’ree areas.

Now if it were a pain to set up a new site, then this type of exercise would be futile. But it’s not! That’s why I’m happy to endorse “Instant Member”:

I’ve only got one small beef.. your purchase includes a licence for just one domain name. So you need to purchase additional licences for additional membership sites. But this is just a small complaint because (a) the additional licences are not expensive and (b) If you can prove with your first site that the process is lucrative, then the cost of new licences is insignificant.

Right now, “Instant Member” has just been launched at a low price - with a rather interesting bonus for the first 100 customers.
