“Is This eBook Any Good?”

I’m quite often asked why, when I don’t like a product, I either don’t mention it, or I make a few casual comments about it.

The reason is simple. Time. If I like something, then I’ll research it in more depth. But if I hate it, I chuck it in the electronic garbage can and forget about it. Life’s too short. Move on!

But I’ve found one review site which seems to be pretty trustworthy, and I’ve started to go there to check out something before I even consider purchasing it. The guy running the site prefers to be anonymous, so I can’t vouch for him.

But his reviews are pretty penetrating and he doesn’t rubbish everything. You do need to be aware of three things:

  • If the guy likes an eBook, his link to the sales page is generally an affiliate link. Otherwise, it’s just a straight link.

  • Although the site is regularly updated, there seems to be an understandable delay between a product being launched and a review appearing on the site. So you won’t see a review of the “latest hot products”.

  • These are the opinions of just one person. OK, he seems to know what he’s talking about, but what might not appeal to him could well suit others.

Judge for yourself. Here’s the website:

Just an example of the last point.. There were a lot of hyped-up emails in the past couple of weeks about a new launch: “Google Nemesis”. A few “Update” subscribers asked why I’d said nothing about it.

The reason was that I hadn’t got the product, so I couldn’t comment on it. When I did purchase it, I was not happy.

The web-based software in the system simply built rather poor product review pages, which could only be hosted on their own server, using their own domain name. The reports were not too bad, except that there weren’t a lot of brand new ideas - and the hyperlinks in the main report didn’t work!

Now although I hated the review building software, other people who don’t build websites regularly, or who don’t have any web space, might find it better than nothing. Mind you, there’s a better “affiliate review report generator” in my “ClickBank ToolKit”!
